Folks... This itinerary has changed many times... Here is something that I am settling on... Please provide feedback on this..
My husband is an avid photographer so we need time at places and also looking for landscape and architecture. Also, I have my 6 year old son with us so we cannot do hikes longer than 3-5 miles round trip...
One of the most difficult things that we were trying to squeeze in was that we want to see the Dana Reserve but also want to stay at the Feynana Eco Lodge just for its uniqueness. So trying to do both while only staying one night was challenging. Ideally we would have liked to spend one night in Dana and one in Feynan, but do not have that many days. So here is what we have thought of.
Day 1 (Thursday, 20/12/2012)
Arrival Amman at 5:30 PM;
Drive to Dead Sea
Overnight Dead Sea
Day 2 (Friday, 21/12/2012)
What can be some of the good activity to do this day besides Dead Sea floating? Evasons Ma'in hot springs? Or Dead Sea Panorama?
Overnight Dead Sea
Day 3 (Saturday, 22/12/2012)
Drive via King’s Highway and Dana Reserve to Petra
Can you help with what are the good points of interest in this route? We would like to see the canyons around Dana... and Karak castle... Will it be possible to reach Dana by about lunch time after Karak Castle and then spend a couple of hours in Dana for short hikes? We are more into landscapes and architecture... Not sure if we are interested in Mt Nebo and the church, unless you insist... Also, should we cover Madaba on this day or on Day 9/10?
Overnight Petra
Day 4 (Sunday, 23/12/2012)
First Entry to Petra
Overnight Petra
Day 5 (Monday, 24/12/2012)
Second Entry to Petra, Petra by night
Can we do Little Petra on this day? Or should we do it on Day 3 when we are driving here?
Overnight Petra
Day 6 (Tuesday, 25/12/2012)
Drive to Wadi Rum early in the morning,
Overnight Wadi Rum
Day 7 (Wednesday, 26/12/2012)
Drive to Aqaba, Snorkel in the afternoon or next day morning?
Overnight Aqaba
Day 8 (Thursday, 27/12/2012)
Drive to Feynan after lunch, do a short self guided hike and the sunset hike
Overnight Feynan Lodge
Day 9 (Friday, 28/12/2012)
In the morning, we are thinking of asking Feynan Ecolodge to arrange a driving trip for us. Drive as if going to Petra through the Wadi Namla and Wadi Araba route but then come back to the lodge. Should be a 3-4 hour drive
Drive to Madaba/ Amman after lunch
Overnight Madaba/ Amman – Would’nt it be better to stay in Madaba as it is prettier than Amman and also the airport is closer to Madaba? Whatever you suggest... We would like to visit Madaba, if possible either on Day 9/10 or Day 3
Day 10 (Saturday, 29/12/2012)
Can we do Jerash, Madaba, Ajlun castle, Amman on this day?
Departure at 8:00 PM
10 Day itinerary with a photographer and 6 yr son, Need feedback please!

Yes, you can skip Mt. Nebo. I wouldn't skip Madaba, but make sure to see more mosaics than just the map. Jerash is a big site and will probably take half a day, especially since you've got to get there and back.
I don't understand why you would stay in Madaba to be closer to the airport and then go to Jerash, which is on the other side of Amman.
Yes, we are still undecided whether to stay in Amman or Madaba... We will probably stay in Amman but not sure when to go to Madaba? Do it on Day 3 or do it on the last day? On the last day, seems hard to to be able to squeeze in Madaba, Jerash and Ajlun...
Your child will like the carriage, camels, donkeys at Petra. My grandkids did all and it helped since we wanted to do much of the site. Save money for a carriage for the return with your son. We ran out and had to walk. It is a long walk when you are tired.
We stayed at the Movenpick and would recommend it for its location and lovely pool.
