My daughter and fiance are coming to visit us in Jakarta. They are flying Qatar and will, on the outbound flight, have a 12 hour layover. They will have left DC at midnight, arriving in Doha at 6:30 pm.
Should they opt for the Oryx Lounge? I understand you pay $40 per person. Should they go to a hotel? Is there one at the airport? Should they try to go into Doha for dinner? Is a visa a problem?
Thanks for the input. It makes their long trip even longer, and I'm hoping to help them out with invaluable advice from Fodorites.

Happy Travels!
I regularly use the Oryx lounge and it is very nice but for 12 hours I think I would be climbing the walls.
Not much to do at the airport. Very little passable food. I don't know what you do (visa?) to enter the country. If you fly coach you are segregated into coach terminal..not part of terminal but a separate terminal.
fyi...Qatar boards very early. On both our flights we were the last to board. In Heathrow they sent flight attendant to find us and it was well before normal "late" boarding.
Here's what I learned -- Qatar Airways will book you a hotel room and arrange for a 'transit visa' for you to leave the airport for the hotel. They have to book for you. The booking includes meal vouchers. They sometimes include this as a courtesy to business class travelers, but otherwise are charging $125 per person. We've opted for this, as the layover is just too long.
Good info, thanks jgmc.
