Hi,
I am eager to hook up with some people (even one person!) who are/is bird watchers in the Nairobi area, for half or whole day outings for example, not safaris.
I will be in Nairobi visiting my family from Nov. 4 to Nov. 26, 2012.
Any help would be appreciated - leaving in a week!
Thanks
Melissa

Nature Kenya sometimes organizes bird walks http://www.naturekenya.org/
CR,
Have you attended one of these walks?
Melissa,
Please report back if you do.
I have not attended one of these walks, but I would have liked to. The group is mentioned in the Rough Guide to Kenya - that is how I learned of them. CR
Hi,
Thanks. I had emailed nature Kenya and didn't hear back, so now i will call them. They do seem like a good resource. Also saw them in the Rough Guide.
I wish you had time to drive outside Nairobi.
We visited Lake Elementaita last August and the birds were amazing!
Also at lake Nakuru there are lots of different kinds of birds.
In Nairobi, try arboretum area and the Spring Valley area west of Westlards.
Good luck!
Trip Report: The bird walks through Nature Kenya which start at the Nairobi National Museum are fantastic. They occur every Wednesday AM, are very inexpensive and are lead by the amazing woman named Fleur who has been leading groups for 40 years. She knows everything about birds and is a delight.
Each week the group goes to a new terrific place. I highly recommend this for any birders or even beginning birders. The group of people are very helpful.
So, how did you get a hold of them? Initially, you did not receive a reply from Nature Kenya.
Hi CR, My daughter-in-law, who lives in Nairobi, put out a bird walk request on her list serve, and a response from a friend of hers came back about the Wed. walks. Someone, (I forget who), got their phone number and we called for info. Also, BTW, they did answer my email another time.
Were you in Nairobi too?
We were in Nairobi in August and would have loved to do a bird walk with a local birder. Good to know that Nature Kenya will respond to emails. I will definitely get in touch with them if we return. CR
