Have really enjoyed books by Tony Park altho they're very difficult to get in North America.

Had to have mine shipped to Canada from the UK.

They're fiction and the few I've read take place in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Before we went to Morocco, I read several books. I esp. liked Queen Noor: Leap of Faith, a memoir and The Caliph's House: A Year in Casablanca by Tahir Shah. I think your choice of counties sounds fabulous!!!

I also love the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series by McCall Smith - set in Botswana - charming.

Also a big fan of Peter Allison - in addition to the one mentioned "Whatever You Do, Don't Run" he has another called "Don't Look Behind You" - he's a guide and writes humorously about his experiences.

"The Elephant Whisperer" by Lawrence Anthony was fascinating. He has another book that I believe has just come out or is about to about Rhinos, but it must be coming out posthumously as he recently died.

Just back from my first trip to Africa and have a couple I downloaded but didn't finish yet - one is "Safari Jema" by Teresa O'Kane - may only be available as ebook, not sure - started it and enjoying it a lot - memoirs of author's various travels in Africa.

Also have "Life, Love and Elephants" which was recommended by a friend but haven't started it yet.

I've just finished "Casting with a Fragile Thread" by Wendy Kann, and loved it. It's a story of the author and her two sisters growing up in what was then Rhodesia. Beautiful and sad, and beautifully written.

Also, I just finished Land of a Thousand Hills by Rosamond Carr. She moved to Rwanda in 1949. This book is an excellent memoir about living in Africa and the best book I've read about the conflicts between Tutsi and Huti in Rwanda and the Congo.

Ditto the positive remarks about Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness, which has to be the best title ever of an African memoir.

Just finished and enjoyed several of Elspeth Huxley's books - they're listed in Treepol's bibliography.
Also Osa Johnson's "I married Adventure" was a marvelous read many years ago.
