There are few, if any, 'cheap' flights to Tanzania.
Besides KLM and Ethiopian Air (the latter a bit cheaper than the former), Qatar and Turkish Air are now or will be as Jan '13 be flying the route.
Check a site as Kayak, www.kayak.com for schedules/fares, nothing that as with land prices, fares are seasonal so fares can vary depending on when you plan to travel. Bear in mind also that seasons for air travel aren't always the same as for land prices.
My recent trip from JFK(NYC) to JRO (on KLM) for late=Oct was $1200, but fares can go as high at $2500, again depending on time of year.
You might want to consider flying into Nairobi/NBO Kenya - served by more air carriers, thus more competitve fares. From here you can take the 5/hr Shuttle Bus, $35 one-way to Arusha, Tanzania.
Good luck!
You've gotta do some research.
