I'm going to be touring through Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Israel at the end of the year for 3 months, with my husband and 2-year old daughter. I am trying to simplify the trip and my life while traveling as much as possible. I've been doing some research on phones and SIM cards and stuff like that and the option of using my regular US phone, well it would be outrageously priced what with all the roaming charges.
I found a company, Talafone that supposedly offers one flat rate from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world with no contract, service fees etc.
Does this sound real? I don't want to buy the phone and rely on a product that I've never used before, but it would be really nice to not have to worry about getting a separate SIM card from each country that I'll be traveling to.
Has anybody used Talafone or a similar product?
All input and feedback is much appreciated, thanks!!
Global SIM? Talafone? HELP!

mobal.com cheapest best for me
Skype or calling cards like pennytalk.com
the very cheapesr if you do not need to be
constantly available.
You make it sound like getting a SIM card from each country is going to be a huge problem for you. It is really easy and cheap.
I don't know about the other countries, but in Egypt you can get one for less than $10 I think still and then you will be able to call home from that number for an economical fee. It's not a big deal.
Note that you will need a quad-band, unlocked phone for the SIM card route to work. "Universal" SIMs do not, in fact, work in all countries, and you would need to check that whichever one you consider will work in the countries you will visit. telestial.com and ekit.com are other sources.
