All the gorilla trekkers out there, take a look at this article, which indicates that Rwanda, Uganda and DRC are planning to standardize gorilla trekking permit fees effective in the summer of 2007 at $500 in all three countries.

Also, there appears to be an effort underway to designate PNV in Rwanda, Virunga NP in DRC and Mgahinga NP in Uganda as a single UNESCO World Heritage Site:

Years ago, before international borders got in the way, the Albert National Park encompassed the entire Virungas area. Today some gorilla families still migrate between Uganda, Rwanda, and DRC. The best hope for survival of the mountain gorilla is for that entire area to be administered as one.
The biggest fly in the ointment is continued conflict in eastern DRC. BTW, there is a small pocket of eastern lowland gorilla a little south of the Virungas, in Kahuzi-Beiga NP near Bukavu, South Kivu, DRC. These animals are probably even more endangered than mountain gorillas, as the park continues to be a refuge for Hutu rebels who fled from Rwanda in 1994.
