We will be travelling to Mauritius in October on business and have an opportunity to extend and spend 5 or so days in Mauritius.
We would like to stay in a self contained villa. Can anyone recommend which side of the island is best and any recommendations for accomodation. We are a "matured" couple (young at heart).

Hi pynewood, it depends what you want to do but I would recommend the north of the island, Trou aux Biches, Mt Choisy, Point aux Cannoniers, Grand Baie or Perybere.
There are lots of private self catering villas, do you have a budget in mind? As you can see you do not get a lot of posts on this Forum about Mauritius - for more information try Trip Advisor or Virtual Tourist - Mauritius is a bit more active there.
Pynewood, I will be following your post carefully, as we are considering a sidetrip to Mauritius after a South African trip in December / January. We are also looking at self catering and in the area Bwino suggests. I have found a couple of interesting websites with apartments and villas in Mauritius, but have not come made any decisions yet.
