We are headed to the St. Lucia area (Zululand Black Rhino Reserve) and want to know if people would recommend spending some time in Maputo/Mozambique on the way? Wondering if the location on the Indian Ocean and interesting culture might make it a nice stop. We are on to Cape Town/Winelands after. Any thoughts?
Include Maputo on SA itinerary?

I don't know when you are going, but you had better check on conditions in Maputo. A weapons storage facility located in the city (not a good idea)exploded a few days ago and killed more than 100 people, injuring many more. It also damaged some infrastructure and some areas lost poer and water. These are old weapons left over from the civil war and apparently the high temperatures set them off. There are concerns there may be more explosions at that or one of the other similar depots also located in the city.
