I've had a hankering to go to Lebanon and Syria for some time now, and reading the trip reports here has whetted my appetite. My problem is that I can only travel in late July, and I'm just not sure how bad it will be as far as the heat is concerned. I'd probably be going for 17 days or so, and would love to travel on my own (and, ahem, cheaply.) I'm used to solo independent travel (India, China, Chile, etc.) but I do realize this may be a bit different.
Is it just too totally crazy to go in summer, or have you lived to tell about it? I'm most interested in the sites and the sights; that is, the history and nature. I'm thinking that I'd probably like to do day trips as part of a group on occasion, and maybe I should just consider doing a tour--although I'm actually not finding any crazy enough to go in July!
I'd love to hear any thoughts on this--and recommendations, of course! It's a bit early for me to be doing my real planning, but I like to dream for a while first...
Just starting to think about it: Lebanon and Syria for 2011
