My college daughter wants to travel to Malawi for the summer (internship). I would appreciate any info regarding safety precautions; reliable cell/ satellite phone/ service; is bus travel safe/ reliable?; are hotels/ hostels sanitary/ safe? Thanks in advance, I am a bit worried.

Hi, Malawi is the safest place in Africa, the people are incredibly friendly. Cell service is fair, and is spreading all the time, there are 3 operators at the moment. Bus travel is safe, just take sensible precautions. Hotels are fine, Always have security. Water can be a problem so always stick to bottled to put in your mouth. There are plenty of cheaper back packers places, these can be as good or as rough as you want! Absolutely no need to be worried. Malaria is endemic, so prophylaxis is a must. Health insurance is a must, including provision for medevac.
Any info , pleased to give, always ready to help.
