We are going back to SA next August but are thinking of extending the visit with a week in Mauritius. We have two quotes from lovely hotels - one on the East side (cheapest) and one on the West side.
I have read on here and elsewhere that it can be quite breezy on the East in August which is their winter. Is is so windy that it is likely to spoil the trip? ideally we want to chill out by a pool or the beach.
From what I can gather, there is more going on in the West of the island too. But presumably you can do trips out from the hotels anyway.
Any comments would be appreciated.
thanks
Mauritius in August

I was there in September and it was a bit chilly. I think it was in the 70s. I must preferred our visit to Mnemba in Zanzibar over our trip to Mauritius. Everything (food, shopping, beach, etc) was better in Zanzibar.
Go to the West side - we went to sugar beach two years ago in August and it was fine.
as a general rule the West is much less windy than the East, although to my mind the east has the nicer beaches (somewhere like Belle Mar)
I actually live on the East side and it is a bit windy at the moment and is generally. Belle Mare is nice but there's some great beaches in the North West. The North has a lot of restaurants, shopping, activities etc but excusrions are easy to arrange.
Hey, I recently visited this spa SHANTI ANANDA MAURICE in Mauritius. its totally an amazing spa wherein they are giving great ayurvedic and international treatments as well as body & beauty treatments in the Indian traditional style of yoga. Apart from that they also provide you with a nutritious diet suiting your body. It was a fabulous experience, really helped me a lot. If you plan to visit Mauritius in August, do try it.
