Hi, does anyone have any recent experiences with Northolme or Fisherman's Cove hotels on Mahe? They have had major renovations and are now both 5 star hotels. We just have 3 hotel nights, so there will not be enough time to island hop. Thanks for your help!

We stayed at the Northolme prior the renovations, but loved the location. On a bluff, with great views, down stairs to it's own private beach, though small, more than ample. It's also located on a good side of the island with other hotels/restaurants just down the road a bit - north or south. You can certainly walk north (there are a few hotels up that way... believe Sunset Beach, or something like that); or taxi to those south.
Being build on a cliff, the hotel is built on levels, so if stairs are an issue consider this.
Believe Fisherman's Cove is on the other side of the island, but not having stayed cant comment.
Though Mahe is the main island, it's still small. You may want to consider renting one of their open convertible tiny cars and ride around the island. There are many remote beaches from where to swim and or dive. The Northolme, if I recall, has a dive center on their property. Also, having been the first hotel on the island, has lots of history of "people who have slept here."
However, that said, even with only 3-days and flight dependent, Praslin Island may be a better choice. From here there are many day-trips you can book (certainly easier/closer than if on Mahe); one day specifically to ferry to La Digue where there are no vehicles...you walk or bicycle or their bull-taxis. You can also get to Cureiuse Is. There's a casino on the island.
Hope this helps.
Just had 4 days has Fishermans Cove. Sandi is getting mixed up with the other Meridien - Barbasons. FC is at the other end of the same beach as Northolme. FC says recently renovated - some rooms are and others are not. We tried 3 rooms, first was unrenovated and had bright, bright furniter - like kid's nursery, 2nd had awful aircon (General brand), third was good (Fujitsu aircon). From what I saw and talking to locals, Northolme has edge.
Food at FC was mediocre - breakfast and dinner.
3 nights is fine - hire a car for 1-2 days and go to better beaches than Beau Vallon - which is nice, but there are better. Overall island is beautiful but poor value.
