Safety in Antananarivo

What is the current situation ? I read from several sources that risks of being mugged or robbed in downtown Antananarivo (city center) are very high. That it is advisable to move in the night time only in taxis. That even in the day;light you should not walk around alone. Can anybody confirm that ?
