Hi 1nancy1. Taxis are common - why not use one of them? Just agree the fare up front. We just returned from Mauritius and our apartment owners booked our taxis. Easy to use.
This answer is probably too late for nancy but in case anyone else needs an answer I live in Mauriitus and use and recommend http://www.taxismauritius.com/contact_taxis_mauritius.htm = they are professional, reliable, can be booked on line and you can pay when you arrive and use the service, they also do tours of the island at rates much better than others.

Yes, I've used http://taximauritius.com for airport transfers and was very happy with their service.
