I've heard Vamizi Island Lodge is one of the most luxurious of the Mozambique beach hotels/lodges. I'd appreciate any reviews or opinions Fodorites would like to share. For example, is it worth the extra travel time and expense? How does the snorkelling off Vamizi compare to other Mozambique options? Does Vamizi have a pool? How would you rate the beach? The food? Finally, in terms of snorkelling, relaxing and enjoying pristine sandy beaches, which is better Mozambique or Seychelles.
Thanks!
Karen

Amazing Safari Trip in Zimbabwe (Matopos-Hwange & Victoria Falls)

I have done alot of research on luxurious islands in Mozambique and Vamizi was up there with the best. When deciding on our holiday my husband and I wanted to spend 9 nights on a quiet lxurious isalnd and go diving after a two week safari in Botswana. Vamizi was my original choice but we have ended up going for Quilalea. The reason being that Quilalea worked out much cheaper as they had a special (2nd person half price) and diving was included. Diving at Vamizi was extra. Alcohol is included at Vamizi but not Quilalea but as we are not huge drinkers it was not an issue for us. Rongui Island is Vamizi sister island and should be opened soon I think. From memory that was only going to have 5 bures and would be very special I think. I have not been to the Seychelles but when I was looking at places to stay in the Seychelles they all seemed to be large resort type places and we wanted something small and intimate. Quilalea has large tidal flow and I would think Vamizi would to, just a guess. This means that the water can be right on your doorstep or you may have to walk a fair way to the waters edge. I would also love to hear from anybody who has been to Vamizi or Quilalea. When I return from our trip early July I will post a trip report and let you know all about Quilalea.
I would like to go to either Vamizi or Quilalea in september. I m affraid so far no fodorites have visited Vamizi, but information on Quilalea would be great already. I guess september should be nice and warm.
