Anybody ever been? I am in preliminary stages of planning a trip for end of March. My nephew is there teaching ESL. He has a smattering of the language. Going with my sister. We would be traveling on our own, whcih we also did in Ghana. Taking local transport, local foods, basic accomodations, off beaten path. We are also thinking of spending some time in Jordan.
Any tips and experiences would be appreciated. I have read that there are some area to not go to, and that there is some turmoil there. I have purchased the Bradt guide.

Still thinking about Yemen?

Sad to see the way it's going there. Was on our travel hit list for 2010,as we'll be in Ethiopia and there are direct flights between those countries.Always wanted to visit Socotra.I note a couple of tour companies have removed Yemen from their offerings.Possibly going to get worse before it gets better.I'd be interested to have reports from people who have been just recently.
