Hi! I am traveling to Marrakesh and Fez this december, and I am kind of worried about being by myself. I am on my 20s and I am planning to take either a bus or a train from Fez to Marrakesh, but I am just not sure if I should contact a travel agency or if I can do all on my own. If anybody could help me, I would be grateful!
Thanks !

Take it easy and travel by your own you'll meet other female Travellers, Travelling alone, so you can meet up, or sharing your trip with others, you can use the Train in the big cities and the Bus in the small town, or places where no train is linked with.

Morocco is 99% Safe, and you have nothing to worry about during your travels, December is a busier time during the year, just make reservations in advance for accommodations, you can do day Trips from Marrakech, using your accommodation recommendations, or using one of the Travel agencies offering day Trips near the Jemaa el Fna square, you can also use some of the recommended Ones on the Guidebook, Fodor's Guidebook is much helpful.
try to read more experience on this threads similar to yours.
I would not choose to travel as a lone female in Morocco, but would rather travel with a group. Men there are more aggressive in their approach than a lot of other places I have visited.
Guys, thanks a lot so far!
I am not sure abou this anymore! I planned this during the whole year, and now I am not sure. I won't be there for long, I just have 6 days...
I read today the travel gudie and they give a number of agencies that I can contact. But the prices are so high, and it's not really what I am looking for, I guess. I think if I am going I should do that tours to the desert, right?
It's normal to be high because it will be the high season in Morocco, which means everything will be busy, and no availability as well.
So the best option is to find some group tour company to join, because if you make it alone will be the double price for you, try to use some forums searching for other people looking for Tours to join, then amnage your date on your own.
but for the Desert, you can do it by the bus Of Supratours with less and you will also meet by other travellers going to the desert, visit teh Bus website , www.oncf.ma it's reliable and comfortable, or try to contact a reliable Driver but asking for other travellers to make the Price down.
Make some search on this Page reading some topics about recommendations for some Tours to use : http://www.tripadvisor.ca/SearchForums?ff=9195&geo=293730&scope=2&q=desert+tour+companies&s=D
In that link you can find helpful information about Moroccan Desert Tours you can use from each way, Marrakech or Fes.
Good Luck .
Read this report to help allay your fears: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2019833 I particularly liked the reference to "a country full of awesome grandmas".
What a Great Report, Thank you tim i've never read such a wonderful report before it's really well detailed and well worth a double read.
Guys, I appreciate all the comments, seriously. I read the report and I enjoyed quite a lot. Thanks for that! I guess I am not canceling my plans of going to Morocco. If you may, Can I just aks another question? Do you think that going oly to Fez is a waste of time? Or I really should try to visit other places such as Makarresh, and do take the bus to the desert?
I guess I cannot thank you all enough!
: )
Visiting Fes, really worth it more than any other destination if you have enough time to do all the places yes Marrakech would be great option too.
For the Desert you can do it if you have enough time, if you don't just base your trip on the other locations.
so from Marrakech to Fes or the opposite you can use the Train as a quick, cheap and easiest mean to use between both cities.
Leave the Desert for another adventure to Morocco, but if it happens you meet other travellers you can then arrange the desert trip with them.
Good Luck and keep your eye watching this forum, and other forums for your experience to Morocco, sometimes you can meet up with other interested travellers to share trips, in case you don't travel alone.
Morocco is Safe, and you can enjoy it on your own.
Happy Travels.
If you don't have a lot of time and you just want to stay in/around Fez you can see Meknes, Volubilis, Moulay Idriss and the Middle Atlas (feed some Barbary Apes) in day trips from Fez, and maybe overnight to Chefchaouen (quite relaxing). Also you should have a guide for the Fez medina so you don't get lost, it is quite a labryinth.
I can thoroughly recommend an overnight trip to Azrou which is about 80km south of Fez in the Middle Atlas. Stopping overnight on a Monday would be best as you could then visit the weekly market which is on a Tuesday.
You can also see the wild monkeys, check out http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Travel-g616013-c145720/Azrou:Morocco:Barbary.Apes.In.The.Cedar.Forest.html
I thought Rabat was a good ,low key start to a Morocco trip. From there you can follow maven's suggestions. I had no trouble doing Morocco on my own ( click on my name for my TR), but I'm a lot older than you are. Normal travel precautions should be sufficient, though.
Hi Marie,
We are two Americans in our 20s (male/female) also going to Morocco between 14th - 23rd. We are thinking of a desert tour from Fez down to Marrakesh from 16th-28th. Let us know if you those are similar to your dates and you still have concerns about traveling by yourself!
