I'm trying to but a round trip ticket from Dallas to New York, but the price is over $400. When is a good time to buy a ticket for the months of June or July? Every time I check on American, the price goes up.

When you say June or July, I get the feeling you are flexible so I would wait. Start looking about six weeks before flying. Consider checking one-way prices. If you hear of a sale from other airlines, check again, because American may compete with a sale from another airline.
I would checkout Hotwire,Expedia daily... I did that on our future trip to china, got a pretty good price, so I booked.... enjoy your trip....
Thanks, actually my dates are fixed. I need a ticket from Dallas on June 25 and returning on July 15 but I don't want to pay $424 which is the current price. I want to use American because the baggage allowance is more liberal than say Spirit and Delta and because Advantage Members get that first bag free without checking weight. Thanks for this advice. I had heard that prices drop on Wednesday's at around 1:00am and am not up at that time, but if that's what happens, I'll get up then.
June 25 is a Tuesday, a cheap day to travel. July 15 is a Monday, an expensive day to travel. Monday, Friday, Sunday's are expensive--but not always.
I just flew from Orlando to San Diego for $214 round trip. I went to the United Website and clicked, my days are flexible, and wanted to travel four days. A calendar for the month showed up, and $214 was the cheapest. I also got upgraded on the Orlando to Houston parts of the flight.
The two best times to buy cheap tickets, particularly to Europe, are as follows:
Yesterday.
Two days after you bought your ticket.
