That topic title pretty much covers it. Has anyone ever had good experiences? When I considered booking with them in the past the overwhelming response was, "No."
I'm needing to book (2) one-way tix Brisbane to SYD; and SYD to MEL, and the savings are significant.
Whaddya think? Thanks!

I have travelled Melbourne to Darwin with them and they were fine. Just check in on time, read rules etc. same as all low cost airlines if problems and flight needs to be cancelled don't have a lot of planes as backup
Thanks so much!
I have used them and thought them excellent ( for the price) much better than some of the budget airlines here in the UK!
I flew them and thought them okay. The planes are tight and the whole experience is very much "bus with wings", but if you save enough...
The policies are also clearly designed to minimize expense/maximize revenue. They are not there for your comfort. I also suspect that, if something were to go wrong, they would be less than helpful.
And, while they shouldn't forever have to answer for it, it was only 2011 that the airline was grounded for violating safety protocols. That being said, I believe they are now under new management.
Isn't tiger airlines part owned by Singapore Air?
Have you checked Jetstar Songdoc? I'd choose them over Tiger, although I've not flown Tiger - always avoided them based on reputation.
I have flown Jetstar from Hong Kong to Singapore. Tiger Air was just a bit cheaper but I was worried about some of the reviews. I saw the Tiger Air counter at HKG. It was a zoo.
No, Tiger is not owned by Singapore Air. Singapoe Air does not own a budget airline, but they do own a regional airline, Silk Air.

Actually, Tiger Airways was started by a group of which Singapore Airlines was the lead investor. They retain the largest shareholdings of Tiger Airways Holdings. I don't believe that Singapore Airlines has much to do with day-to-day operations, though.
You get what you pay for with Tiger, the same as on the European budget airlines such as Vueling and easyJet. I've been happy to get Tiger's low prices without frills for flights lasting only a couple of hours. Tiger in Australia had some regulatory difficulties in 2011 which you can read about on Wikipedia.
My flights are each about 90 minutes and I'm probably going to take the chance. I've never had a problem with EasyJet -- and I don't need any frills. I'm looking at around a $200 savings (for two people). Thanks for your input. I'll let you know how it goes. (The flights aren't until May.)
I thought SA had something to do with Tiger Air, thanks for clarifying that Travelgourmet.
I agree Southam you do get what you pay for with them as. Long as you know their terms I think you are fine. I have only used them from Singapore to Thailand when they initially started out and Singapore was their hub.
Just found the below online, didn't realise they fill in the "gaps"
With Singapore Airlines having a stake in the airline, the airline occasionally fills in the gap when SIA drops its services from certain destinations. Macau, once served by SIA before being taken up by its subsidiary, SilkAir, in 2002, terminated all flights completely by the end of 2004. Three months later, the route was taken over by Tiger Airways with flights commencing 25 March 2005. A similar pattern can be observed in Krabi, where SilkAir suspended services in February 2005 in the wake of the effects of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. Tiger Airways resumed direct services to the location from 7 October 2005
Singapore airlines also own Scoot which is a low cost carrier.
Virgin Australia is currently trying to take control of Tiger Airways Australia but it seems the regulator is delaying their approval
As others have said, Tiger would be my last resort
What they are not Grrrrrreat?
No I have heard they are not great. But that was someone quite pishy posh. You get what you pay for (except American Airlines which is expensive and rubbish). So if it saves you some serious money go for it. Think what that money could be spent on once you get there? It is not as if it is a 14 hour flight. For the short/medium haul these airlines are fine. Done similar airlines in Europe and the US and most have been just fine; Easyjet, Vueling, BMI Baby (RIP), Spirit (one time great, one time aaggh!), Ryanair
Thanks so much for the responses. After all this it turned out that the times didn't work out for the Tiger Airways flights! But it's good to know that next time I can use them if the times work out.
I, my uncle and his wife took a Tiger Airways' flight from Singapore to Vietnam on the 10th Feb 2013, flight# TR2308 after hopelessly in getting Singapore Airlines tickets since it's too close to Chinese New Year. What should I say because it's too terrible compares to what i had to pay (nearly 1,400 SGD/3 paxes/1 way). We're all tired, freak out when the plane was suddenly swayed and kept swayed most of the journey's time. It was the first time we traveled with this airline and I do hope no second time come up. Thanks for your topic anyway.
