Hey there Fodorites!
We are going to be in Punjab for about a month in June for a wedding we are attending. We will have some free time and were looking for travel recommendations. We love historical and religious sites along with anything thats considered off the beaten path. We will be staying with family so no need for hotel. We will also have a driver so we are looking for things in a 2-3 hour radius from Punjab. Thanks

What city in Punjab will you be staying? Punjab is kind of big, so I'm not sure what you mean by 2-3 hour radius from Punjab.
Of course Amritsar and the Golden temple and other nearby places. GT is as marvelous as Taj Mahal, better in some ways. Wagagh border cermeony. I was ther ein June and the state was HOT.
Last yr i staed in Ludhjana and it was one of the worst air qualities in the world. I hope that is not where you are staying!
Himachal Pradesh is an adjoining state. Head up to Dalhousie it is gorgeous. Mandi and surrounds interesting. Agree Golden Temple is a wondrous site. Happy travels!
Hi,
I don't know if you have been to India before but if you are here for a month, then you must utilize this opportunity to travel a bit within India.
You must ofcourse visit Golden temple, though take out time for Taj Mahal (Agra), some monument sightseeing in Delhi (you will arrive in Delhi. From Delhi go to Agra for a day. and from Delhi go to Punjab.
You can visit Himachal pradesh from there, which can be a weekend getaway. Do visit Dharamshala which is home to tibetian culture and Dalai Lamha.
You can also visit Rajasthan--- one of the most unique place in the world due to its monuments and forts.
Do let me know, if you need any additional advice to specific places.
Cheers
Lucy.
Punjab is really very beautiful State of India. In Punjab you will enjoy their nature, their beauty. Lots of places to visit in Punjab like Golden Temple (Amritsar), Fort of Razia Sultana (Bhatinda), Thakur Dwara (Gurudwara), Quilla Mubarakat (FaridKot), Hall of Mirrors at Quilla Mubarak. Raj Mahal (Faridkot), Fort of Phillaur (Jalandhar), hessh Mahal Main Bazar (Hoshiarpur), and many more.
