Am seriously considering an Airbnb rental in this area. We have used Airbnb before successfully. Any thoughts on this area for a one week stay?
Thank you.

Hi there!
I actually live in Singapore not far from Tiong Bahru. It's actually quite close to the city and the Orchard road area. There's an MRT station on the East-West (green) line which connects up with the other areas fairly close by. You can reach Marina Bay in three or four stops. This is a very up and coming area in Singapore -- tons of new eateries and shops moving in to take advantage of cool hip vibe and also to enjoy the setting in one of the oldest and most beautiful areas of public housing. There's still lots of local Singapore here in the wet market and food center, and some of the old shops there too. I think if you want a more authentic Singapore experience than you'll get at a hotel on Orchard or in the downtown area, this is the place to go.
Not to hijack your thread, but since LyndaMR lives in Singapore, could you comment on the following Airbnb apartment neighborhood? I've been in Singapore a lot, but I don't know this location. Although I had to cancel this recent trip to Bangkok and Singapore, I never give up hope of getting back there and I had seriously considered the apartment below in my pre-planning stages.

Thanks
Happy Travels!
LyndaMR, thanks for your reply. This apartment is not available for our visit. Boo hoo as it looks lovely and from googling the neighborhood, it looks right up our alley. The only hotel I could find near that neighborhood was the Wang and it was offputting to me somehow.
We ended up with a reservation at Hotel Clover at 769 North Bridge Road, Bugis. Since this was my original thread, I guess I am not hijacking it to ask your opinion on the area.
We were surprised that a good many hotels were sold out already for New Years week.
Thanks for any info you have.
