Soon to Hanoi for 5 nights. May suggest my lovely lady partner take a cooking class and learn a cuisine that is 'out of her ordinary' as i am easily bored. I see online some classes offered, including a French cooking, for various prices but cost is not the first concern. Anyone here have a suggestion/recomodo to offer on a half day class which includes eating the results?

http://hanoicookingcentre.com/ A nice hands-on cooking workshop at its headquarters. Also operates street-food tours for the brave -- a great insight into the Vietnamese passion for eating at any hour of the day.
http://www.hiddenhanoi.com.vn/cookingclasses A more self-consciously colourful kitchen where the lessons are hands-on but done somewhat as a group exercise. Like the cooking centre, it stresses the culture of food as well as the recipes.
These places charge about $50 for a half-day, somewhat pricey by Vietnamese tourism standards but a steal compared to cooking schools elsewhere. It is worth paying a premium to have a tour of a market before putting the ingredients on the chopping block. There are cheaper offerings but in my experience you get what you pay for and the one bargain I took was in makeshift English and felt improvised.
