Kashmir has been torn by political conflicts. Limited areas are open to visitors, but safety is still an issue. As aamir is a travel agent for Kashmir, his opinion can hardly be considered objective.
Other lovely Himalayan areas to consider in addition to Nepal: Bhutan and Sikkim.
I have trip reports on both Nepal and Sikkim. Click on my name to find them.
aamir appears to have joined Fodors simply to advertise his business. Please ignore him.
I would love to visit Kashmir, but not until the security situation is much better. (Preferably after the long-standing division with Pakistan is resolved, which is unlikely to be in my lifetime.)
Nepal is a great choice. The old sections of the cities in the Kathmandu valley are endlessly fasinating and the Himalayas are just magnificent. For blog posts on Nepal start here:

Aamir got busted.
Seriously his advice is rather poor as security and safety is a huge concern. We are going to India in Oct. and Kashmir is not one of the places I would go to whle there.
Have you considered other places in India? If not them the choice is cleary Nepal.
I have been to both these places. Moreover I went Kashmir and Pahalgaon last year in June. Seriously I suggest you Kashmir. Very relaxing, peaceful. Though the hotels accomodation is not that good, but one have option of House boats as well. You can negotiate the price.

So what's bad in that?
There are lots of new posters who are here to advertise their business. We have had several lately advertising Kashmir. Perhaps you are as well.
Really? And what about you? I doubt u.
Better concentrate what your are doing. If you find any one doing this thing, then only you point that person out.
With friends like this....
I would like to add that I have a colleague from Kashmir. He has repeatedly asked me to go visit with him and I hope I can do so soon. Three of my other colleagues went last year and loved it. The only thing was it was COLD. I think it is fairly easy to take a safe journey there. (I'm not selling anything!)
That said, I also hope to go to Nepal on a recruiting trip later this year.
