Hi,
I will be going to Phuket with my brother and his wife (their first time to Asia) in early April. Unfortunately until 4/16 it's not yet low season so rates aren't what I'd like...I did come across a good deal for The Surin at around $220 USD a night. The JW Marriott is about the same price, both Phuket and Khao Lak. Any opinions? I think since it's their first time out here I'd prefer something more boutiquey than a big Marriott, but I don't know anyone who has stayed at the Surin. The beach there does look nice. Also any thoughts on the Hiltons in Phuket? My brother has status with Hilton so he prefers them.
I had wanted to try the Sarojin in Khao Lak - but for our dates its $389 a night, 2 weeks later it's $167....
Phuket - The Surin - opinions?

April 13 - 16 is the Thai new year, basically the whole week from the 12th to the 21st will be a major holiday for Thais. That is why there's a big jump in rate for the week you plan to visit. Advise you book ASAP, especially for transportation.
Hi,
Thanks for the advice. We are traveling the weekend of the 12th and I do know of the festival of throwing water. I'll tie up our reservations today then rather than wait for a deal to come along as you usually can in Phuket...
As for transit, I think we'll just need a taxi from the airport.
Surin beach is one of the best in Phuket. So staying here will be great if you are spending most of the time lazing and enjoying the sun. And you can easy pop by patong for shopping and dinner in the evening.
Marriott is at bang Tao beach which is up north near to the airport, stay here if you just want to spend all your time in the resort as it takes about an hour to get to patong.
The Hilton Phuket is at karon beach, and it a pretty old hotel that has been there for years, not sure has there been any renovation lately.
