DH wants to take DS on a trip to Singapore and Thailand.
These are places we have travelled to (minus children) previously, we (I) loved the shopping and people and places of both destinations.
Which is why DH thought it would be great to take DS to also enjoy the beaches, theme parks and culture of these detinations.
DS under 10. Quite independant and, at times, doesn't realise the possible danger in situations. This is where DH and I agree to differ.
As a slightly paranoid parent I tend to see the 'risks', the 'dangers' and/or the possible negative side to travelling through Asia with a child under ten. Sure DS isn't a toddler or teenager - which have their own set of situations - but still not confident about a multi-country Asian Adventure -as yet?
what your thoughts?
go now? put this off until DS is older?
Which countries to Avoid? which countries to embrace?
what to look for (or look out for?)
label DS with contact details? etc
you are probably getting a picture about what is travelling through my head, so all feedback welcomed.
recent experiences, those who suggest other countries first, etc etc
slightly... paranoid parent

Are you saying your DH is not a responsible parent? If he is in your view then what is the problem? They will have a great trip and a great time.
lol...true, should have expected that one!
as I have said to DH, it isn't us that makes me paranoid!!!
we are a great team and understand the cultures and travel times to these countries well, its the perceived safety (or lack of) that we differ on!
Well, Singapore has to be one of the safest places around, but you should use the Change Forum option and post this on the Asia board.
As my DW's DH, I have taken each of our 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl on trips to Europe one at a time per year so each got a special trip with dad every three years. Actually, when the oldest "aged" out of the system, the two youngest got to go every other year for ten years. We began when two were under ten. It was a great bonding experience, the kids learned alot and are now seasoned travelers and most of all we enjoyed our special times, now memories, together.
I say let them go. Singapore is seriously safe. No worries there, except remembering to look the "other" way when crossing the street
And of course, drink Sportwater so you maintain electrolytes.
I've not been to Thailand, but I have been to Bali and I would absolutely take a 10 year old there - basically as long as he is old enough to understand why you don't drink the tap water and why you need to apply mosquito repelent, I think it is all good.
I'd ask this on the Asia forum.
Go now! Perfect age for that trip. As others have mentioned, Singapore is safer than where you live and Thailand has a very developed tourist infrastructure with excellent medical facilities. Agree that Bali is also an excellent choice.
Both Singapore and Thailand have excellent infrastructure. Both are ideal destinations for your son.
Actually, you might benefit from a relaxing trip to Thailand.
