My granddaughter is working near Shanghai and we are exploring the possibility of me coming to see her in February. I live in Toronto, Canada.
She has two weeks off between February 10 and 23rd.
Can anyone give me some suggestions for places to meet, not necessarily in China. I have been to Australia several times and would love to have her see Sydney but budget is also a consideration. I know the city and we could plan our own itinerary.
As a senior, I don't want anything exceptionally taxing, although I climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge this past spring for my 75th birthday. That would be at the absolute upper limit of my physical activity.
Another factor is I have an extreme allergy to fish of any type. I know it is a staple of the diet in that part of the world and it is very limiting for me. I have to be very careful.
My granddaughter, age 22, is an experienced traveller.
Any suggestions for places to meet and visit for a holiday?

Sydney is a long way from Shanghai, and even longer from Toronto. She is only 22. You don't have to worry about her not having the chance to see Australia.
She is getting those weeks off because of Chinese New Year. It is a HORRENDOUS time to travel around China as everybody seems to be on the move. It's probably better off to go someplace else for both you and her.
I suggest you think about where YOU want to visit, and don't worry about her. Japan will be easiest for you, as it's a non-stop flight from YYZ, though expenses can be a bit high. Thailand or other places in Southeast Asia are all possible.
hong kong... malaysia, singapore, india, japan, bali to name a few
Thanks, folks. I appreciate the suggestions.
We always leave Shanghai during the New Year week. We can't take the war-like onslaught of fireworks 24-7 for so many days without a break....But my colleagues who stay here tell me that Shanghai can actually be somewhat empty...
February 10 is the Spring Festival- Chinese New Year. Suggest going to Beijing to get together with your granddaughter, enjoy authentic Beijing spring festival!
