Suggestions for Pingshi Latern Festival

We will be in Taipei on the date of this years big latern release in Pingshi (or is it Pingxi?) Wondering if anyone else has been in prior years and could advise on the best way to get there, enjoy it, get the best photos and get back to Taipei.

I would be happy to hire a guide or driver if that is what it takes.

This is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity so I want to do it right.
