We arrive by train from Beijing. Have three nights in Ulan Bator (or wherever we want to go). Two kids 13 and 14. Any suggestions? We aren't on a tight budget so anything goes...Thanks!

Well, the kids might like the dinosaur eggs in the UB museum (although they looked like cannon balls to me) and the huge skeleton but otherwise I'd look into getting out of town and staying in a ger camp, maybe with some horse riding.
The Gandan Monastery was very enjoyable. You can wander around a bit and watch the monks praying. There is also a room where you can select a specific prayer for the monks to chant. Such as one specific for good luck during travel, or a great marriage, etc.
We went to two different museums, the Bogd Khan Palace museum, which was smaller, but had some very interesting pieces. And the Museum of National History was my favorite, we thought it did a good job putting the long history into perspective.
Of course you will have to wander around Sukhbaatar Square - its the real large square in the center of town with statues.
Right outside of UB is Turtle Rock - you could take a quick day trip out there for some fantastic views of the country side. I'm sure you could find an inexpensive bus ride out there.
Some of our more memorable times in UB are of very basic things. We really enjoyed our trip to the grocery stores, the bank and mailing post cards. Even the simple things seemed exotic in UB.
We found there that was a very interesting mix of food in UB. Korean, Indian and some really good pizza.
I hope you have a great time!
