Been to Tokyo twice, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, bappu. I liked bappu onsen the best because the town itself was an unexpected surprise. People walking around in their bath kimonos the sulfur steam all over, the ryokan stay felt real Japanese cultural experience. Since I don't enjoy temple or castle sightseeing where shoul I go next in Japan.
Where is the next new top destination that I should see?

Kakunodate in the last weekend of April follow that with a visit to Nyuto Onsen and a stay at Tsurunoyu just might fit your bill. Doesn't get more authentic than this.

Aloha!
I think ht nailed it for location, but am not sure about going on the first weekend of Golden Week.
Also, Noboribetsu Onsen would be a good choice.
Those are the dates when the peak cherry blossom bloom will be this year
In my experiences you don't want to be in or near airports during Golden Week
Aloha!
