I have lived in Guam for two years, and have some advice for you... As for hotels, there are tons of high quality (expensive) beach front hotels. Any hotel on Tumon bay is nice. I like the Pacific Islands Club, but be prepared to pay. If you're looking to save a buck, try the Cliff, but watch out for the maid staff (sticky fingers). The Cliff hotel is not on the beach. Scuba diving is OK here, if you go, insist on the blue hole and the crevice. They both get kinda deep (120+), but are very nice. I would actually recommend Bali if you wanted a cheap beach getaway or Palau for a diving excursion. I do like it here, but my job brings me here. I don't think I would shell out the bucks to visit.
Feel free to email...Bo
Hi
I've spent a little time in the region, and would suggest if you have a choice aviod guam and go to Palau instead. Some of the best diving around, and great trips around the rock islands. fab snorkling too, especially "Jellyfish lake".
I agree, Guam is not the tropical destination one may be looking for. Graffiti and trash abound on this island. The island is geared toward the Japanese tourist which have created the highest prices outside of Tokyo that I have seen.Bali is the best value going out here these days and Palau is tops for diving.
Hi,
I'm originally from Guam and all of the replys that you have receive so far are true. Expensive hotels geared for Japanese tourists, mediocre siteseeing, and not-so-great diving spots. If you're looking for the island experience go to Maui or Kaui or for the diving go to Palau (also known as Belau). Oh, also a reminder, November runs into typhoon season and the heat/humidity is unbearable.
