My son and I are thinking of going to Heron Island in early July. Will it be too cold to snorkle? Thanks for any help you can give.
How cold is it at Heron Island in July?

If you are from a very cold climate then the answer is no, o/w yes it would be too cold. I lived up that way and found it still very cold for swimming until well into September.
We were in Port Douglas in early July and snorkelled off the pontoon on the Great Barrier Reef. It was a little cold going in (I've been in worse!), warm once you started moving around and once we got out, you really wanted something warm on (shorts and a long sleeved top was fine). The breeze was a little cool out on the ocean.

Kay, Heron Island is 1,000 miles south of Port Douglas and is a lot colder there. Night time temps get down to about 5 deg Celcius sometimes in July and so the water if very cold.
I am a Canadian used to swimming in Cold Alberta lakes. The ocean is too cold around Heron Island in July and it gets cold at night too! I would Pick an island that is farther north.
