My husband and I are looking to get away for about 10 days late June, and are currently looking at deals for Noumea and Samoa. We're having trouble deciding which would be the better option. We've already been to Vanuatu and Cook Islands and enjoyed them both. We're on a mid-range budget, looking at accommodation around the $AUD 150 - $200 mark. We don't mind self-catering if that seems to be a better way to go. We're looking to spend time on the beach rather than by a pool. We're not looking for nightlife or bars. This holiday is really to get away from it all and relax. We also want to be able to do decent day-trips. E.g. to take photos, see a bit of island life, and do some easy walks. We would either be hiring a car or paying for a guide/tour.
Any advice on whether Noumea or Samoa would suit better would be much appreciated.

I stayed in Noumea for a "3 day weekend" years ago. Very expensive. A volcanic French island with not a lot there. Long but fairly narrow black sand beaches. Small museum.
Public transport is a fairly good bus service. Taxis are expensive, even more so on Sundays and after 7pm. You can hire a bike, motorbike or car. Hitch hiking is accepted (most locals own cars).
I don't know about Samoa.
Samoa is made up of nine islands, of which Upolu is the most populated place. It is a postcard of natural beauty and there are lot many attractions and exciting things to do. Some of the places include:
1. Palolo Deep National Marine Reserve
2. Sea Wall Harbour Walk - The sea wall is a lovely, idyllic place for leisurely walks, especially during the evenings.
3.Lalomanu to Lotofaga - It is the most beautiful stretch of beach at the south east end of Upolo.
4. Falealupo - This is the best place in the world to spend a late afternoon. Situated at the western-most end of Savaii you can enjoy a walk through the rainforest.
