Yes to Target. Several.
Which university? The Broadway Shopping Centre has a K-Mart (like Target, but cheaper), and also 2 higher-end shops, Bed Bath n Table and Adairs. This centre is close to University of Sydney, University of Technology, Sydney and Notre Dame. If you are more interested in UNSW, the shopping centres in Bondi Junction are closest, and you will find K-Mart in Eastgate and Target in Westfield Bondi. If you are looking for semi-disposable furniture, Broadway has somewhere you can rent furniture short-term, and there is another centre, the Moore Park Supacentre which has Fantastic Furniture and Freedom Furniture (the first is cheap, Freedom has slightly better quality).
