I have been twice swimming with the whale sharks on the Ningaloo reef off Exmouth in West Australia. Each trip lasted 6 days, once using a local tour company and once with a private charter. Both trips provided outstanding moments with the whale sharks although not every day. There was also the issue of the water clarity, with most times being a regular green with good visibility but on occasion the water took on a blue colour with exceptional visibility of 30m and more. To help with planning and provide some background information on what to expect I have written an illustrated article at http://www.artphototravel.net/the-pacific/swimming-whalesharks/ with photos and map.

Les - thank you so much for posting this - fantastic information. We camped at Cape Range National Park for a week and Ningaloo reef is one of my favourite spots. Pristine and beautiful (this was in 1997)
Unfortunately we were there later in the year and missed the opportunity to see the whale sharks! I would love to go back one day - the whale shark encounter must be absolutely awesome.
We've had a few queries here regarding Ningaloo and your link will be extremely useful and helpful.
So cool. We are going to swim with the Whale Sharks 3rd week of April. Can't wait.
a great link, thank you. Enjoyed the section on Iguasu Falls, too. We were there in January 1998, staying on the Argentinian side. Absolutely amazing place - watching the toucans, the coatimundi, and the tiny guinea pigs too.
