We are driving from Ottawa to Barrington, Nova Scotia for a UofO university alumni get together - celebrating "the gang" are now retiring! We plan on leaving Ottawa and driving to St. Andrew's by the Sea (what's the best route to get there quickly) and staying there for 2 nights, then continuing onto to Barrington and spending 2 nights (then the gang will be renting a bus and travelling together for 5 days visiting Cape Breton) after the 5 days of travelling, my husband and I will then leave Barrington and travel back around to Digby, Annapolis Royal to Amherst to Charlottetown, PEI back through NB to Quebec City for a few days with family then back to Ottawa. I'm not sure on the exact driving route, as we've never been and how to plan for B&Bs and hotels. Does anyone have any suggestions.

oops, one more thing - we have 3 weeks of vacation which I think is plenty of time for the above trip!
The Barrington area is beautiful -- don't miss the two-mile long white sand beach at Daniel's Head, Cape Sable Island. Just a few miles away from Barrington you'll find the Acadian community of Pubnico, well worth a visit. The western end of Nova Scotia is not as heavily travelled as the rest of the province, making it a wonderful place for exploring. There are lots of great little local restaurants serving nice fresh seafood, and plenty of comfortable accommodations. For all accommodations in Nova Scotia you can use their online booking service (searchable by community or area) at www.novascotia.com or make the same plans by phone at 1-800-565-0000.
Shelburne is maybe 1/2 an hour from Barrington, a quaint historic town which also offers an excellent and very popular restaurant - Charlotte Lane. You will also love beautifully scenic Cape Breton.
The provinces all have extensive accommodation information on websites (google "(province name) tourism". e.g. here's a link for Nova Scotia: https://www.novascotia.com/en/home/planyourtrip/travel_guides/default.aspx and if you click on "visitor information services" on the left they also have a travel counselling and booking service. They'll send you road maps, etc. too.
