Hello, We are planning to do 11 days of hiking on East Coast Trail. We are fairly seasoned hikers and The Spout Path and Biscan Cove Path is on our must do list so far. Can anyone suggest other "must do" hikes on the east coast trail? Also, we are trying to decide what month to go so I was wondering if anyone has any advice on this?.

Five of us went in mid-June this year. We did two sections just south of St John's and two sections north of St. Johns, including the Biscan Cove section. We were well equiped except all five of us forgot suntan lotion!? We got royally roasted on the Biscan section. Note that the ECT web site isn't kidding about the challenge of finding your way back from the Cape to Pouch Cove. We were lucky to find a German tourist driving the road. The road is very steep and bumpy in one spot. She was just as lucky to find us as were to find her as we had to push her car up a hill.
The segment on the other side of Pouch Cove (Stiles Cove) was probably the prettiest of the four we did - really incredibily beautiful.
South of St Johns we did the Deadmans Bay Path from Blackhead to Ft Amherst. Also very pretty but the terrain was a bit tougher. The last 400 meters down to Ft Amherst is one big rock pile.
We also did the Cape Spear to Maddox Cove trail. It was very nice but very open and very foggy.
We saw about 4-5 other hikers each day. So June was great from that perspective. We got a bit of rain and a lot of sun with temperatures between 10-20C (50-70F).
Actually if you start the Cape Spear trail in Maddox Cove you will not find it open to start. But then it becomes very open after a few kilometers.
We also went in June both times and loved it because we saw the puffins nesting .
As for the trails we loved Tinkers Point Path . It starts out in the village of Mobile and is high on the cliff with wonderful views out over the water .
But my very favourite hike was the La Manche Village Path . We really enjoyed seeing and experiencing the feeling of seeing where the town had once stood . The suspension bridge was fun to cross . Beautiful, scenery along here .
Enjoy your trip .
