Go to excite.com and do a search for northern lights or aurora borealis
There are several excellent websites that have maps showing where they are most likely to be seen and offering a wealth of other info.
Hi Joan,
The northern lights is perhaps one of the most spectacular sights to behold in the natural world. I have had the opportunity and delight of seeing them several times in 40 years, however the most exciting experience was in the far north of Canada, near 'Inuvik' in the Yukon in the month of June. Be glad to give many more details if you wish to e-mail me back!!
Theresa
Hi Joan,
The previous writer must have made a typo on June. I live in Inuvik, NT and we have 24 hours of sunlight from the middle of May until the end of July. So there is no darkness in June to see the Northern Lights. The winter is the best time to see them in the Western Arctic. Inuvik has some wonderful Northern Lights, but have heard the most beautiful ones can be seen in Churchhill, Manitoba. If you want to see some great Norhthern Lights in Inuvik a good time to come would be around January 6th because at the same time we celebrate the first day that the sun returns after a month of 24 hour darkness. The Volunteer Fire Department puts on a good fireworks show, called the Sunrise Festival. If you have any questions, drop me a line.
Good luck on your search.
Dan.
