Hi everyone!
We're planing a trip in August to visit a couple people North of us. One is in Fort St. James, and the other in Yellowknife. I could use google maps to get a route to drive, but thought I'd ask you to see if there are any special places we should't miss along the way. It's the first trip North for both of us, so maybe one way, either driving up or coming down, should be more scenic with the other being more expeditious.
Does anyone know which drive would be the 'best'?
Vancouver with a detour to Fort St James, then on to Yellowknife OR
Yellowknife 'straight' through to Vancouver
Any suggestions on things to stop and see?
Thanks for the input ![]()

Gosh, what a fun adventure.
I've driven as far as Dawson Creek, and then to Grande Prairie, and I can only assure that there is lots and lots of scenery along the way.
If going to Fort St. James first... I'd definitely go due north from Hope, along hwy #1... then via #97 to Prince George via Williams Lake... then over to Fort St. James... then Prince George... through the Rockies, then to Dawson Creek, over to Grande Prairie... and up to Yellowknife...
On the return trip I would go from Grande Prairie due south (hwy #40) eventually to Jasper, and probably down to Banff... and then westward along Hwy #1.
I wouldn't say that either of those is 'expeditious', but if you need to get to both spots, and are driving, then the chance to see some of those areas (on both mentioned paths) is priceless in a way.
