My husband and I are thinking of visiting Montreal for our 10th anniversary. We haven't been to Montreal in many years and I was wondering of these two hotels, which might be the better choice. Looking for something luxurious and in a great location. Each hotel boasts both, but i'm wondering if anyone out there had an opinion on this? Thank you!

You are well above my budget level so I can't give any first-hand info. But I can suggest that the Ritz Carlton has just completed an extensive renovation, including the addition of a condo development and a new Daniel Boulud restaurant. The Ritz is in a posh area (uh, "ritzy") near the St-Catherine shopping street. The St. James is in the old commercial district of the city, near the old port. Both places are within a few blocks of a Metro subway station.
Thanks Southam. I had heard the ritz had undergone some serious renovations. Wasn't sure about the area though. Thank you for your input!
