Airport transportation to St Regis

My husband and I will be traveling to St Regis Bahia next month with our 2 small children. The hotel provides a taxi service at $165 each way, which seems outrageous. I know car rentals are more cost effective, but we are hesitant to drive in a foreign place with our kids with us. Are taxis from the San Juan airport reliable? Cheaper? Any other suggestions?
