I was on the Arabella last week, sailing around the U.S., Spanish and British Virgin Islands. The BVI was undoubtedly party central, so I'm writing up trip reports on my blog. My first post, about Pirates Bight and Willy T's on Norman Island, is up (with Jost Van Dyke to follow). Happy to answer any questions!

great report so far can't wait for the next half
Thanks! Here's the second part. Not sure why I didn't like these two iconic BVI bars better.

Sorry you didn't like Soggy's and Foxy's more. Soggy's has always been the ultimate in laid back to me, and I've been lucky in that on every visit to Foxy's I've been able to see the man himself - his health is none too good and the doc has ordered him to stop singing (and supposedly to stop talking, but try to make that stick), but he is charming as hell.
I understand about Soggy's. The first time I was in Jost Van Dyke was 25 years ago! It was the pioneer of beach shacks and extremely cool. Like all places thru the years that get popular, the next time I went, about 6 years ago, it was crowded! Lounge chair rentals lined up on the beach, etc.
In general though, I find the small bars of VI to have character.
I always love your reports, written so they are so fun to read. Keep them coming!
have to disagree abou the Soggy Dollar - your timing was maybe not perfect (your last day, hot+humid, tired).
we were there in early January, and it was about as perfect day as can be - overcast, a few sprinkles early, and maybe 20 folks total. our group of 8 took over the bar, as no one else was sitting there, and drank and ate for about 4 hours.
Sirius satellite radio on the reggae channel, played the ring game, swam, and basically had a grand old time. we were in a powerboat, so we headed to the Willie T for happy hour to close a perfect day of island bar-hopping.
the lack of heat, humidity and the cloud cover made it so nice to be outside, enjoying the islands.
Joester - You are right. I think enjoyment of some of these places completely depends on how big the crowds are, as well as the weather. I don't certainly purport to speak for everyone! Glad you had fun, I certainly loved the islands overall.
