We are going to St. Maarten the end of April and have been referred to Value Car Rental. Anyone have any experiences? We were there in 05, but can not remember who we rented from at that time. At that time we had nothing short of an awesome experience during the entire visit to the island. This time we are taking our 23 yr old and 17 yr old.

Answers to your question are in abundance, located in the other forum here, seen to your left, called: "BEWARE - St. Maarten Car Rental with Dollar/Thrifty Car Rental". That thread is most relevant and applies to all rental companies currently, even though the thread started way back, and no wonder. Allot of good advice there about how to deal with this on-going problem.
i.e.,
Triple check every tiny scratch possible, and have each one listed clearly. Have the guy initial each issue. Let them know how aware you are of this rental car scam.
On a side note, never ever leave anything in your trunk for even the 60 seconds it takes to go into lobby to check in. Allot of tourist think the trunk is the hidden safe spot. NO NO NO NO NO NO No. Leave all passports, documents, 95% of cash, SD cards, rental car documents, all jewelry, and all cards but one, in the room safe. As for the one card you do carry, have a copy of it and its 1-800 number so you can call them if you need to cancel it.
You are going to a 3rd world. Its a different set of rules, and different slack laws towards burglaries. Going there requires you both have a nice time UT also at the same time, you must be on-guard always. Many long-time St Martin fans know this reality and do well. May new tourists learn the hard way, like my wife and I did.
