Hi there, hubby and I are thinking of going to Curacao in September. Can anyone recommend a neat villa or bungalow type place to stay? We don't really care for the all inclusive places or fancy hotels. We'd prefer a place on or very near the beach with a kitchenette so that we can make a few of our own meals. Any other suggestions for when we're there would be appreciated too! Thanks so much in advance. D

We stayed at the Lions Dive in a 2 bedroom fully furnished apartment. They have regular hotel rooms also, 3 restaurants on site, several more within walking distance and daily free shuttle to a grocery store. Sits on a nice section of beach. Nice location.
We took the shuttle and bought stuff for breakfast and lunch and ate dinner out.
We did a East/West Island tour, Beach hopping tour, private beach dinner at the Avila hotel, took the bus downtown for shopping and did a dive at the Sea Aquarium. No certification was required.

Your pictures are wonderful. Thanks for sharing them and the info on the resort. What time of the year did you go? I'm a little worried about going during hurricane season, even though I live in Florida, you would think I'd be used to them. We're thinking about going for 10 days.
Thanks. We went in May 2009 for 7 nights. We are in Texas, so we had to fly to Aruba from Houston and then take Insel Air to get to Curacao. Otherwise, we would have had to over night in Miami. I so wished I lived in Florida for so many reasons.
The ABC Islands are generally out of the hurricane belt. Not to say they don't get tropical storms, but those usually hit in October-December.
We've been to Aruba in a September and the weather was perfect. Since you never know it doesn't hurt to get the insurance just in case.
I have to say, we enjoyed our vacation, but Curacao did not make our return list. We like AI vacations and buying/cooking food on vacation was not really for us, but Curacao does not have good AI resorts. The apartment was amazing though. They had just opened that section within the year we went and we got as a free upgrade. The food a the on-site restaurants were very good and we brouhgt down our own beer in a small lunch bag type cooler and they never said anything.
The sand is made up of crushed coral, so water shoes are a must. The beaches are coves/inlets mainly on the West side of the Island. You'll need to rent a car and get a good map to get to them or do the beach hopping tour.
The best part of the whole trip was the scuba dive at the Aquarium. It was so awesome. I have a separate book of pictures on my site of just that if you didn't see them.
