I was also scammed with timeshare in Mexico. Many of them are scams,
especially in Mexico. I didn't get my money back (maybe because I didn't think about requesting it). I just wanted out of my timeshare contract.
I found an article about timeshare scams in Mexico and it provided a consumer agency (Procuraduria Federal Del Consumidor) website: profeco.gob.mx/. I filed a complaint and several weeks later I received a letter from the resort cancelling my contract and offering a free week! I imagine that it may be helpful to contact the consumer agency for that
particular country. I hope this helps!
This reminds of a quote by a famous circus entreprenuer.
They can't take it unless you give it to them. Take care with your money, especially in a foreign country. You don't have American agencies to protect you.

We were scammed by Mayan Palace too. I found the website http://www.mayanresorts.info/ to be very helpful. It shows how to get together with other victims and launch a class action lawsuit against the Mayan Palace.
