Curacao is also very nice. If I were you I will split my vacation in 2. A few days in Aruba to get the crazy nightlife and then go to Curacoa for total relaxation.

There is more to do in Aruba and the beaches are much better than Curacao.

Both Aruba and Curacao´s beaches are spectacular! But I kinda like Willemstad a bit more because of its colorfull buildings and relaxing atmosphere...

We've been to Aruba and Curacao. They are complete opposites of each other. Aruba is more built up. Tons of resturants, bars, shopping and entertainmnet. If you chose a hotel on Palm Beach you'll be within walking distance to most everything. Plus the bus stops are convenient and inexpensive. The beaches are very nice in Aruba. Long, white sand, and calm water.

Curacao is not as developed. There is a main area downtown for shopping and resturants. Beaches are coves/inlets all over the Island and made up of crushed coral. You'll need a rental car, a good map and alot of patience to find them or you can just do a beach hopping tour. Public transportation is lacking.

Being a women, but not single, I would recommend Aruba over Curacao. As stated above, Aruba has more things to see and do and the beaches are much nicer. You can always take a day trip over to Curacao from Aruba if you want to see it.

i have been to St. Maarten by myself in my early 30's and had a BLAST!!!!
i'm a bit of a social person, so i would talk to people on beach or in restaurants and see what they did or are going to do.
lots to do on the island.
enjoy yourself. that was the BEST vacation i have ever been on. going this year with a girl friend, so it's a bit different but still will have a blast.

Curacao may not be everyone´s favorite island but it is sure mine!lol I will be there again in 7 months!!!

Just found a non-stop flight from Dulles to Aruba leaving the Saturday after Thanksgiving.... Traveling alone for some R & R - I am a very young 63 year old. (Husband will be on a hunting trip). How to get from airport to a hotel (No budget constraints on hotel, want clean, safe, within walking distance of restaurants, etc). Advice?

I would head for Palm Beach in Aruba.
It's a short cab ride from the airport. When you arrive, just walk out the door & the cabs are there all lined up waiting for you!

The first time we went to Aruba we stayed @ The Marriott Hotel on Palm Beach. The second time we stayed @ Marriott Ocean Club next door. It is a timeshare property. You can go to www.redweek.com
or www.tug2.net to check for availability.

Or, stay @ any of the major hotels on Palm Beach: Hyatt, Rui,
maybe the Radisson.

I am headed to Aruba. It was hard to choose an island. I have reserved a B & B - will rent a car to go all around. Just bought snorkel & mask - so excited cannot wait til Dec! Thanks for all the great advice. My soldier son and wonderful husband are very encouraging...Question: Should I make arrangements to spend one day in Curacao before I travel?

Where is the B & B?

Chose Club Arias in Saveneta. It seems a good fit for me. I will have a car all week so I can drive anywhere. It is a quick drive to Baby Beach. The owner has called to welcome me already. My decision for this B&B over a high rise was based on the desire to stay out of the tourist area, feel safe, etc. As far as snorkeling I have never tried it. Thanks for all the good info.

Isn't Saveneta kind of remote....drive to the beach, drive to restaurants,etc?
