I myself and trying to decide too. I have heard recommendations for a few places. So far its between the Ritz, Marriot Morningstar, Secret Harbor and/or Sapphire Beach. I am having trouble trying to figure which one would be the best because some people prefer one to the next. I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I myself and looking for a nice resort on a nice beach with decent amenities and good service. Good luck!
The main problem is that the best hotels are not on the best beaches.
Some would argue that Sapphire is the best beach with a hotel on it, but the resort is mediocre and overpriced, in my opinion.
The Ritz has a small beach that is fairly nice; the hotel is first-rate. Morningstar is in a busier part of the island; the beach is good but exposed to more wave action.
Secret Harbour is a pretty little beach that is very protected. The resort is a condo complex, which gives you a different experience than a full-service hotel.
If a fancy pool is important to you, Ritz or Morningstar would be better.
Of course there are other choices, such as Bolongo, Wyndham, Palace (formerly Renaissance), and others. Marriott Frenchman's Reef shares the Morningstar beach.
Personally, if I wanted a hotel experience, as opposed to a condo experience, I'd probably pick the Ritz if I could afford it; otherwise Morningstar or cheaper yet, Fr. Reef.
For condos, Secret Harbour would be good and there are a couple of choices at Sapphire Beach (Crystal Cove and Sapphire Village).
The East End of St. Thomas is normally considered the most desirable location since there are plenty of good beaches/restaraunts in that area as well as the ferry(s) to St. John and BVI.
