We cruised on Oceania, starting in Venice and including (but not ending in) Dubrovnik. I don't know if 684 passengers meets your definition of small, but we like that cruiseline very much.
Did this on LeLevant a couple of years ago. Since been replaced (by Le Boreal?) I have heard. Good voyage which we preferred to a larger ship.
