Have not yet been on a river cruise in Europe (only the Nile and Yangtse so far). Am overwhelmed by the number of options. We would like to have a trip with some entertainment on board, perhaps piano or combo, or even better, ballroom dancing. Any suggestions of cruise ships or lines to look at?? thanks

Just got back from an Amawaterways trip on the Danube to Budapest.
The answer is minimal.
Besides the house guy, there was one group that played for a whole 1/2 hour one night. They were "gypsies", yeah, right!
We've been on several river curises and usually there is a piano player, perhaps also someone singing, in the bar lounge in the evenings. Background music to conversations which I prefer.
Which boats or lines??
Viking, AMAWaterways
Danube, Russia, Mekong
Lat year we travelled Amsterdam to Budapest with Tauck on the MS Treasures and we were very happy with the evening entertainment. Every night their was the "house musician" playing and singing and you could join him for Karaoke if you wished. We had a number of groups join the boat for the night playing everything from the classics to German Oompah Pa. We had an evening of trivial pursuit (men versus the ladies. I thought there was enough entertainment to suit most travellers.
On Viking, Lectures, ethnic dancing, ethnic music. Mercifully, no broadway, magicians or jugglers.
