I hear that the Panama Canal is going to be enlarged or widened. Does anyone know if the construction has begun or when it is going to be started? I'd like to cruise it beforehand. Thanks.

I posted this without a little research first, so have now found out that the construction has begun. I'm wondering if it impacts current cruises. I'd like to cruise the canal through the original locks, so wonder how much time I have before the construction is completed.
I think its supposed to be done in 2014.
You won't see the cosntruction if you cruise the Canal now. The new locks are not in operations and won't be for a long time. Since the new locks recycle (re-use) the water, it would be a different "marvel" compare to the old locks. Its schedule to be completed by late 2014 or early 2015 if everything goes according to plan. I have also heard that the locks would be mainly used by the mega cargo ships.
